Elias Ambühl wins the Austrian Freeski Open 2009
The Swiss newcomer shows a perfect run, his brother Andri Ambühl places second in front of Beni Mayr in third. Patrick Hollaus is Austrian Champion. Yesterday was a worthy Finals’ Day for the seventh edition of the Austrian Open. Under bright blue skies 30 competitors showcased the highest riding level that could have been witnessed at a freeski contest in Austria. 16-year-old Elias Ambühl simply had a perfect run with an unbelievably clean and stylish Switch Double Corked 1080° Japan. Says Rafael Regazzoni, the event’s Head Judge from France: ”That was most likely the best double cork 10 that I have ever seen. He couldn‘t have done anything better!“ Patrick Hollaus claimed the title as Austrian Champion. As usual, he impressed with a clean style on the kickers and finished fifth overall.

Youth rule day
The 14-year-old Swiss Nina Michel won the Ladies’ Contest at the Austrian Freeski Open earlier today with an extraordinary performance in front of Lena Stoffel from Germany and Dutch Canisia Romani. Austrian Markus Obwaller took the Rookies’ title, second became his fellow countryman Marco Möschl, third Kai Mahler from Switzerland. The Men’s Finals, the highlight of this year’s Austrian Open, will follow tomorrow, before the After Contest Party will finish the event in style tomorrow night.

Qualification at high level
Marlon Holzmann wins the Men’s Qualification at the Austrian Freeski Open 2009, Boen Ferguson in second and Jussi Mononen in third place. The Men‘s Qualification of the Austrian Freeski Open 2009 took place today in Mayrhofen’s Penken Park under grey skies. The flat light couldn‘t stop 40 riders representing 12 nations from competing on a remarkably high level.

THE AUSTRIAN OPEN 2009 are launched
All riders of tomorrows qualification used the sunny day in the Penkenpark Mayrhofen to train on the perfectly shaped kickerline. We already saw great riding level which makes clear that the riders will need to show there absolut best to get one of the 15 seats for the finals on Friday.

In case you are on the waiting list we will inform you accordingly to the list ranking as soon as we get a cancellation of a registered rider.

Men & Rookies registration full
After only two weeks of open registration the riders lists of the categories men and rookies are full. Thanx for the big interest for the AFO 2009 but unfortunately we have limited space for competitors. Don't hesitate to still register if you really want to be part of the AFO. You will be put on the waiting list and with a little bit of luck you will be in.
